True spring ephemeral of the prairie - by midsummer, the plant seemingly disappears as it goes dormant. Flower color variation naturally occurs from purple to pale pink to almost white. Inconspicuous, mahogany-colored seedpods follow. Will tolerate full sun to full shade when provided with evenly moist, well-drained soil. Adaptable to a range of soils, except poorly drained. Attracts many pollinators but not honeybees, as they do not produce nectar.
