Adaptable, tough plant that will thrive where other species fail. Tolerant of rocky, dry, exposed sites, it is a vigorous grower. Will colonize. Striking color combinations of orange and red in fall. Not a great choice for a manicured landscape due to spreading habit, but a gorgeous addition to naturalized areas. Tremendous wildlife value. Myriad birds, butterflies, and mammals feed on nectar, fruit, stems, and bark.
